The University of Ghana has promoted 15 academic staff to the rank of Associate Professor and approved the promotion of three senior staff in the administrative and professional category. The announcement was made in a memorandum issued by the Office of the Registrar on May 26, 2025.
According to the memo, the promotions were considered and approved by the Appointments Board on behalf of the University Council at meetings held on April 15 and May 13, 2025. This follows a new provision in the 2024 Statutes of the University which delegates the authority to appoint Associate Professors and Deputy Registrars to the Appointments Board, effective August 1, 2024.
Notable among those promoted are Dr. Nii Armah Adu-Aryee (Department of Surgery), Dr. Grace Lovia Allotey-Babington (Department of Pharmaceutics and Microbiology), Dr. Kareem Mumuni (Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology), and Dr. Isaac Boafo Mensah (Department of Sociology). The list reflects a wide range of disciplines including Health Policy, Teacher Education, Finance, Psychology, and Information Systems.
In the administrative and professional category, Mr. Philip Atsu and Mr. Archibald Adjei-Quaye were promoted to Senior Accountants in the Finance Directorate, while Mr. Joseph Otswey-Buabeng was promoted to Senior Counsellor in the Careers and Counselling Directorate.
The promotions underscore the University’s continued commitment to academic excellence and professional development, as well as the recognition of hard work and service by its faculty and staff.
The Registrar, Mrs. Emelia Agyei-Mensah, signed off the memorandum, which also clarified that all applications submitted before August 1, 2024, will still be considered by the University Council.
