The President-elect of the University of Ghana’s Student Representative Council (SRC), Maradona Agyei Yeboah, popularly known as Guru NKZ, has publicly refuted social media reports claiming he made political comments about the ongoing strike by University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG).

The rumors suggest that Guru criticized UTAG President, Professor Ransford Gyampo, for allegedly being politically motivated in his advocacy against illegal mining, (Galamsey).

In his response, Guru clarified that these accusations are entirely false, reaffirming his respect for Professor Gyampo and denying any political affiliations or attacks.

Speaking to Univers News, Guru made it clear that he has never linked Professor Gyampo’s actions to any political party. He emphasized his respect and admiration for Professor Gyampo, whom he described as a mentor and lecturer.

“Prof. Gyampo is my lecturer, and I love him. I even supported him during his campaign for the UTAG presidency. You can see it on my page on X, I have not linked him to playing politics. These accusations are entirely false and baseless.”

“My focus as SRC President-elect has always been on addressing the needs and concerns of the students, and I have remained neutral in any political discussions regarding the UTAG strike.”

Guru reaffirmed his stance in support of peaceful negotiations. He acknowledged the frustrations faced by both students and lecturers, calling for a swift resolution to ensure that academic activities resume without further delay.

“When elephants are fighting, it is the grass that suffers. The strike is negatively affecting students, and as SRC President, I am advocating for both parties to come to a mutual agreement.

He also underscored his commitment to serving as the voice of the students and ensuring their welfare is prioritized.

“I continue to push for solutions that will allow lecturers to return to the classroom and enable students to continue their academic journey without further interruptions.”
