Hearts of Oak duo Ransford Mensah and Hamza Issah were on target at the University of Ghana Stadium on Sunday night as the Phobians beat Bechem United 2-0 to record their first league win of the season.

A competitive first half saw both teams go close on occasions, but lacked the end product as the game stayed deadlocked.

However, a well-taken free-kick by Ransford Mensah six minutes after the recess put the Phobians ahead in their newly found University of Ghana home ground.

Poster boy Hamza Issah made no mistake in putting the result beyond doubt when he hammered home his header for Hearts of Oak’s second goal and his first of the season.

Hearts managed to hold onto their lead to record their first home win of the season after losing their first two games this term.

The result, which is Aboubakar Ouattara’s fifth home win as Hearts of Oak manager, moves the Phobians from the drop zone into 10th on the league log.

Meanwhile, Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare, who kept the most clean sheets in the league last term at Olympics, managed his first this campaign, taking the total clean sheet tally under the Ouattara’s reign to five.

Hearts of Oak take on Nations Fc next weekend while Bechem United play as host to Dreams Fc.
