UGSRC Presidential hopeful Maradona Adjei Yeboah, popularly known as Guru NKZ, has revealed that every student on the University of Ghana campus wants to feel like a celebrity. As a result, to win their votes, candidates need to engage with them on their level.

Guru made this statement on the 3FM Drive with Giovanni Caleb on Monday, September 16.

Do you know that at your school [UG], everybody wants to feel like a celebrity? It’s serious. You have to come down to their level. The conversation is different there,” he said.

He also reflected on the challenges of his journey, stating that his decision to run for office came late, at a time when his opponents had already gained an advantage. He added that while his popularity helped create awareness, it wasn’t enough to convince the student body, requiring him to put in extra effort.

It [declaration of intent] started from the very onset of the semester. I declared my intentions at the beginning of the semester, and it was very difficult because my opponents had already established their grounds. So, basically, I had to start from scratch,” he explained.

“And God being so good, the brand we’ve built outside campus helped in reaching the entire student population. Creating awareness was easy, but they were not convinced. They were like, ‘You want to use your popularity to come and convince us?’ It doesn’t work like that. So, basically, I had a great team. They’ve been in the space, managing other aspirants, and have won a lot of seats, so they understand what goes into [student politics],” he said.

The highly anticipated UGSRC election is slated for Wednesday, September 18.
