Pro Vice-Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs at the University of Ghana, Prof. Gordon Awandare, has justified the recent increment in the residential fees, stating that the adjustment was originally scheduled for implementation in 2024.
However, only a partial increase was applied after student leaders raised concerns with the Minister of Education.
Speaking to Univers News, Prof. Awandare explained that the revised fees remain moderate, especially when compared to charges by private hostels.
“These fees were supposed to be implemented last year. The minister said we should implement partially and then fully this year. So last year they implemented it partially and then this year it’s being fully implemented. These fees are very reasonable compared to what people pay at private hostels.”
