Mr. Edward Ofori Agyemang, President of the Mobile Money Advocacy Group Ghana (MoMAG), called on all mobile money vendors to join the association to fully benefit from its resources and support.

Speaking to the media at MoMAG’s 7th anniversary celebration, held on September 7, 2024 at the Cedar Mountain Chapel auditorium in Accra, themed “Celebration of Transformation and Service,” Mr. Agyemang highlighted the challenges faced by agents, such as long operating hours and difficult working conditions. He encouraged vendors to unite and contribute towards establishing cooperative facilities to address these issues.

“All mobile money agents who are not in the association, please join because there are a lot of benefits you will gain. One challenge we face is that some agents don’t close early. Some work until 10 p.m. or even later. We’ve seen agents working under umbrellas, and we encourage them to build proper shelters because their safety is paramount. If something happens to you, the association cannot be there to help.”

The event brought together stakeholders, workers, and association members, all committed to advocating for mobile money workers worldwide.

During the gathering, the president revealed that next year’s celebration will take place in the Volta Region and shared plans to construct a CHPS compound in the area.

“And again, next year we are taking this celebration to the Volta Region. One of our goals is to build a CHPS compound for the region. So, we plan to construct at least three rooms, and we are encouraging all our members to contribute. Each person should aim to provide one block every month, as a block now costs around 5 to 7 cedis. If we motivate our members, I believe it will benefit all of us.”
