Deputy Youth and Sports Minister, Honourable Evans Bobie Opoku has assured Ghanaians that the deplorable state of the Accra Sports Stadium pitch will be fixed soon.

He expressed this concern to Channel One Sports after the Democracy Cup curtain-raiser game between a select side from Ghana’s Parliament and former Black Stars players.

After recording a surprise 3-1 win over ex-Ghanaian footballers, the Member of Parliament of Asunafo North Constituency addressed the issue of the bad pitch at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The pitch itself is not all that good. This is the complaint that we’ve been receiving..the Honourable Minister (Mustapha Ussif) has promised that we need to do something about it so very soon Ghanaians will hear something about it.

The pitch is not good at all and when you are running and you’re not careful, you will fall down, he admitted.

The Parliamentarians first goal came from the MP for Obuasi East, Dr. Patrick Boakye-Yiadom, who slotted the ball past former Black stars keeper and trainer Richard Olele Kingson.

Hamza Ibrahim’s brace plus Obuasi MP’s goal were enough to secure the win for the Parliamentarians, while Sulley Muntari converted a free-kick for the ex-footballers’ only goal.

The Democracy Cup match was to celebrate 30 years of parliamentary democracy in Ghana.

Meanwhile Asante Kotoko’s 2-1 win marks the third victory in a row for the Porcupine Warriors over their bitterest rival Accra Hearts of Oak.
