Golden Eaglets head coach Manu Garba insists his side would have walked away with maximum points in their West Africa Football Union (WAFU) U-17 opener, after settling for a point against Burkina Faso at a rain-lashed University of Ghana Stadium yesterday.

The defending champions of the WAFU Zone B commenced their title defense and group B’s opening game with a stern test against a resolute Burkina Faso team.

Despite spurning numerous opportunities after carving Burkina’s defence open, the Golden Eaglets were unable to break the deadlock in the game.

The first half, however, was played under cloudy conditions with no downpour, but the torrential rain, accompanied by strong winds, took over proceedings in the second half of the game, making it difficult for players of both teams to find their bearings.

However, Golden Eaglets head coach, Manu Garba, was adamant his side were the better team on the day and could have walked away with maximum points, barring the rain

If not for the rain, we could have won this match convincingly. Even with the rain, I think we created the best of chances. Burkina Faso are just lucky to have gotten a point today, he said

Nigeria keep their dreams of defending their prestigious crown with a game against Niger on May 19, their next assignment after their 0-0 draw.
