Women’s Premier League Match Report : Jonina Ladies 3 -0 Berry Ladies

Newly promoted Ghana Women’s Premier League(WPL) side, Jonina football academy beat Regional rivals Berry Ladies by 3-0 in the matchday 8 encounter of Ghana’s Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League in Anti Aku on Saturday.

 Jonina Ladies Head Coach named a strong starting lineup for the clash which included goalkeeper Osman Huzeiman, captain Eunice Kpenteey and other players including, Angela Asantewaa, Vida Opoku, Matilda Bless Fodu, Sandrq Atinga, Felicity Asante, Abigail Appiah, Agnes Yeaboah, Emmanuella Sarfowaa and Agnes Asazi for the big game.

Madina-based Berry Ladies football club also paraded a strong XI consisting of Grace Kofi Amoah, Cynthia Boakye Yiadom, Dorcas Quansah, Comfort Cobbinah, Jacqueline Amponsah, Christabel Boateng, Portia Sakyiwaa, Martha Appiah, Comfort Yeboah, Reginah Donkoh and Deborah Annoh.

The game started with so much pressure as both teams struggled in search of a goal. Jonina Ladies finally broke the deadlock in the 18th minute after Agnes Yeboah beat the defense of Berry Ladies to strike the ball past goalkeeper Grace to make it 1-0 for the host.

Berry piled pressure in search of an equalizer but all their effort proved futile as the game ended 1-0 for the host after the first 45 minutes.

Eunice Kpeentey of Jonina Ladies doubled the lead for the host in the 60th minute as Abigail Appiah scored the third three minutes after the second goal was scored to worsen the plight of Berry Ladies.

The WPL debutants have now beaten their Regional Rivals, Berry Ladies, twice this season; in the FA Cup and the Women’s Premier League.

Jonina Ladies now have eight points after 8 games while Berry Ladies drop to 14 points after 8 games.
