Head coach of Mensah Sarbah Hall Women’s football team, ‘Opanka’ has revealed that getting players for the women’s squad, especially in the diaspora and private hostels, is a tough row to hoe.
Speaking exclusively to Univers Sports, the head coach said he anticipated that the game between his side and the Jean Nelson Aka women’s team would not come off.
“I’m not disappointed that the match didn’t come on. You see, they just resumed school, and I think getting some players is very difficult, so I expected that Jean-Nelson would not get the team to come and play. I will not say I’m disappointed, but something has to be done about this issue because, mostly, when it comes to ladies, we don’t really get squads from other halls apart from the traditional halls, so I expected this. Nothing more.”
This follows the Mensah Sarbah Hall’s women’s team inability to face Jean-Nelson Aka Hall due to the cancellation of the match; the Jean-Nelson women’s football team failed to appear at the Sarbah field, where the match was scheduled to take place. The women’s team did not show up until one hour after the scheduled time for the match, which was supposed to take place at 3:00 pm, GMT. This forced the official in charge of the game to rule it as a walkover for Mensah Sarbah Hall.
Mensah Sarbah Hall’s women’s team is still yet to kick a ball despite grabbing their first win.
