The first fixture of the women’s inter-hall football game, which was set to take place on Tuesday, November 14, between Mensah Sarbah Hall and Jean Nelson Aka Hall, has been cancelled.
The encounter, which was set to kick off at exactly 3:00 pm GMT at the Sarbah field, saw the Jean Nelson Aka women’s team fail to appear until 4:00 pm GMT. This forced the official in charge of the game to rule it as a walkover for Mensah Sarbah Hall.
Speaking on the sidelines of the game, captain of the Mensah Sarbah women’s team, Marcia Afriyie, told Univers Sports that her side will now shift attention to the next game.
“We prepared for this game, looking forward to taking our three points and scoring more goals. Now that the team didn’t show up, it has limited the number of goals we wanted to score. Since it didn’t come on, we’re going to look forward to the next game, strategize, and see how it is going to come out. We hope for a win, and hopefully we get out of the group stage and go to the finals.”
In addition, head coach of Mensah Sarbah Hall, Opanka, told Univers Sports that the cancellation of the game will enable his side to adequately prepare for the next fixture.
“Cornering my team, we didn’t get much time to train, so I think this will give us the platform to get more time to train for our next match,” he said.
Mensah Sarbah Hall now leads their group with 3 points, while Jean-Nelson Aka Hall is sitting at the bottom with no points.
