Real Tamale United (RTU) has petitioned to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) over the performance of referee Eric Sefa Antwi in their matchday 2 fixture against Bofoakwa Tano FC.

The Tamale based side filed this petition on Monday, September 25, 2023.

Real Tamale United were defeated by 2-1 at the Sunyani Coronation Park on Friday September 22, 2023 in a face-off against Bofoakwa Tano FC.

The club claims there was a pre-meditated action between the match official (Eric Sefa Antwi) to get their side defeated at all cost.

The protest is channeled towards the incident that occurred on the 86th minute, when goalkeeper Afriyie Nana Yaw for Real Tamale United collided with a player from Bofoakwa Tano. RTU are of the view that it was the latter (Bofoakwa Tano) player who impeded the goalkeeper and not the other way round.

“In the incidence that led to the award of the penalty, extra diligence was expected from the referee to protect the goalkeepers after the latter was challenged in the air by an attacker of the home side; instead referee Eric Sefa Antwi went for a penalty to appease the home fans who continuously yelled for penalty anytime they found a ball in our penalty area.”

“The center referee frustrated efforts and game plan of our team with several bad calls against us in a premeditated move to grant the home side all 3 points.”

The incident resulted in a spot kick which led to Boafoakwa Tano grabbing their second goal of the game which happened to be the winner.

RTU has called for a review on the part of the Revire Committee over the matter, so that sanctions will be metted out as necessary.

“We implore on the Review Committee to as a matter of urgency, review the full details of the match and apply the necessary sanctions to avert the dangers these developments pose to our beautiful game. Our fans will remain calm and resolute as we engage the rest of the clubs in the betPawa GPL hoping that, we receive fair officiating in all our matches.”

Real Tamale United will hope to build on their last home victory against Hearts of oak when they welcome Hearts of Lions to the Alliu Mahama Stadium on Sunday.
