The Ghana Education Service has announced a suspension on the approval of the inclusion of Tug of War and Pillow Fight in Sports at the Basic and Second Cycle Schools in the country.

This was announced in a letter dated 8th June, 2023 addressing the Federation of Tug of War/ Pillow Fight.

Regional Directors across the country were also advised to relay the info to stakeholders to enforce the new directive.

The GES had previously approved the inclusion of the sport earlier in May in response to requests from the Federation of Tug of War and Pillow Fight to include the two games in sports in Basic and Second Cycle Schools in the country.

In response, m‏any stakeholders across the country had raised concerns over the issue of safety and learning in classroom, after the inclusion of the games.

The directive, which rescinded on the approval seems to have addressed questions raised around the safety of children as well as their ability to focus during classroom learning activities in Ghana.

Below is the above-mentioned letter.
