13-member committee formed to review KG-Primary education curriculum

The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu has set up a 13-man committee to review the Kindergarten-Primary Education curriculum to meet modern trends as part of the government’s agenda.

The committee which is made up of seasoned Educationists and experts with vast experience of the country’s educational sector is chaired by Professor Amina Plummer.

Other notable members of the committee include; Chief Director of the Ministry, Mamle Andrews, the Technical Advisor to the Minister, Professor George K.T Oduro, Director General of the National Council for  Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCa), Professor Yayra Dzakadzie, the Director General of Ghana Education Service, Professor Kofi Davis, the Inspector General of Schools, Professor Azeku Tahiru Salifu, and the Registrar of the National Teaching Council, Professor Christian Addai-Poku.

There are slots on the Committee for reps of the Ghana TVET Service, the Director of Pre-Tertiary Education at the Ministry of Education, the Director of Budget and Finance at the Ministry, the Director ( Administration) and an Educational Consultant.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Committee, the Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu intimated that education plays a key role in the sustained progress of any human society and as such “if we get our educational priorities and policies right, it sets up the nation for collective success and sustained fulfillment of the human resource potential of the country”.

He explained the reasoning behind the government’s agenda for the revision of the curriculum not being only a mere formality but a conscious step to hatless the full expertise of key stakeholders in Ghana’s education sector to spearhead the full actualization of President Mahama’s vision for the country.

” It is my considered view that this very important national exercise which would be undertaken by this committee of Eminent persons will go a long way to help us produce ethical and conscientious leaders and individuals for the future generations of this noble country.

To succeed in this ultra competitive world, we need to produce well rounded students who have a solid educational training that goes beyond just book knowledge and to be able to solve real world practical issues that stare our society in the face”.

The Minister further charged the committee to do a good and top quality job in the review of the curriculum to put paid to the debate of which individual was the actual founder of modern day Ghana once and for all.

” Your work as a committee must be thorough enough to clear the doubts in the minds of our children on who is the real founder of the modern day and independent Ghana without any further debates in the ensuing years to further polarized us as a nation.

The Minster wished the committee well and thanked the members for graciously accepting to serve the nation with their invaluable expertise.
