The Narcotics Control Commission has seized 54 slabs of drugs suspected to be cannabis with cost estimates valued at $127,000 at the Kotoka International Airport.
Officials of the Commission intercepted the consignment on Wednesday ,May 24,2023. The package has a weight of 12.67 kilograms.
The consignment was suspected to be heading for onward shipment to the United Kingdom before NACOC officers detected it during routine checks in the scanning room of the airport.
In a media statement released by the Communications Department of the Commission, indicated that,” during routine security checks by our officers on the travelling public and luggages, we detected the slabs which raised the suspicions of our hardworking officers”.
“The Commission would like to use this medium to remind the general public that the possession and transportation of illicit drugs without lawful authorization is illegal and punishable under sections 40 (1) and 41 (1) of Act 1019 of the Narcotics Control Commission Act 2020. “
According to the Commission, steps are being taken to trace the owners of the consignment and apprehend them for further investigations.
The general public was then cautioned that the outfit is relentless in discharging its duties in ridding the country of peddlers of illegal drugs and substances, and as such ,it would need the support of all meaning citizens to achieve the aim.
