The Black stars of Ghana have lost by a lone goal to nil against Comoros at the Stade Malouzini on Tuesday afternoon in the second Matchday of the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

After surviving a late scare in their last outing against Madagascar on Friday, with Iñaki Williams hitting a stoppage time winner, Ghana were faced with a Herculean task of beating the Comorian side who were coming into the game with their tails up after a 4-2 victory over Central African Republic (CAR) in their first game; they had also previously prevailed in their last competitive meeting against Ghana in 2022.

Comoros picked up from where they left off in their last game against C.A.R with the side setting the tone for the first half with a dominant display.

A bamboozled Black Stars seem to run out of ideas and lacked the needed cohesion throughout an insipid half as they were behind before the interval; the Shikomor, Myziane Maolida picked the ball little away from the halfway line, drove at the Black Stars defense and went past four players before slotting past Richard Ofori into the top right hand corner, putting Comoros ahead on the break.

Instrumental player, Mohammed Kudus was introduced into the game after the recess to spur the Black Stars to victory after initially being left out of the starting line up due to a back injury. The West Ham star could however only do little about the situation, with Comoros holding on to record back to back victories against Ghana. The victory moved the Shikomor team to the summit of group I after two games.

Ghana recorded their first defeat of the 2026 World Cup qualifying rounds and the first competitive loss under the reign of Irish manager, Chris Hughton.

The Black Stars will be hoping for a different outcome in 47 days time when they kick start their quest for a 5th Africa Cup of Nations title in Ivory Coast against Cape Verde.
