Ghana Football Association Vice President, Mark Addo has disclosed that the vision of the current football association’s administration is to restore Ghana’s past glories on the continent.
The four-time African Cup of Nation (AFCON) champions have been a pale shadow of themselves in recent times, finding it difficult to win matches consistently.
Due to the decline in performance, Ghana has dropped out of the top 10 ranks in Africa over the past year. The latest FIFA rankings conducted as of July 2023, has placed Ghana 11th on the Confederation of African Football (CAF) table and 60th in the world.
Mark Addo spoke of some measures the administration is putting in place to achieve their goal.
“We want to be a powerhouse on the continent and the world, so a lot of resources will go into developing our coaches and our teams to that level. Our local league still needs a lot of help in terms of making the product so that people can go and watch it like we used to. We have to strengthen the capabilities of our referees so that the games are officiated fair and cleanly and in a very professional way,” Mark Addo stated.
The GFA Veep further admitted that a collective effort from the football association and the government of Ghana will ensure the return of Ghana to the top.
“One of the efforts is to continue engaging with the government for its support because we cannot do it all alone. There are a lot of resources required at this level especially if we want our national team to be top in the world we have to put a lot of resources at all levels like other countries are doing. If we don’t do this, we will be sitting here one day and countries like Tanzania will be raising the bar.”
On October 25, 2019, the Ghana Football Association’s Executive Council elected Mark Addo, President of Nzema Kotoko Football Club to be the association’s Vice-President. In October 2023, the present administration’s would have its first term come to an end.
Nevertheless, the Kurt Okraku-led administration would have another opportunity to continue managing the Ghanaian football space when the impending elections take place in September.
