The Office of the President has refuted claims that it is involved in a land dispute with the Ghana International School (GIS).
Some media reports had alleged that the Office of the President through the Head of the VVIP Unit – a unit responsible for protection at the Presidency – was engrossed in a dispute over a piece of land at Cantonments belonging to the school.
However, in a statement dated September 5, 2024, and signed by the Director of Communications, Eugene Arhin, the Office said it has no interest in the said land.
It added that no officer has been assigned to interfere with any matter concerning the GIS land.
“The Office of the President does NOT have any interest whatsoever in the piece of land in question. No officer, agent or assign has been directed to secure and/or interfere in any matter pertaining to GIS land within Cantonments,” the statement said.
The presidency said it had made an official complaint to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to investigate the matter.
It, therefore, urged the public to ignore any contrary claims.
Principal of GIS, Frank Amponsah-Mensah, had alleged that a group led by a man identifying himself as a Chief Superintendent with the Police VVIPU invaded the school’s property with building materials, including sand and blocks.
He further recounted the events of August 29, 2024, when the alleged takeover attempt occurred.
He added that the school was determined to resist any attempt to cease the land.
