Coach Laryea Kingston and his players began their West Africa Football Union (WAFU) U-17 Zone B campaign with a brilliant performance against their neighbours, Ivory Coast, hitting them for five in yesterday’s game at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.

The Black Starlets opened the scoring through Joseph Narbi after Abdullai Nortey provided a brilliant assist to him in the 27th minute.

He then got his second of the game after a rebound from a corner kick fell to him at the edge of the Ivorians box, lashing the ball into the back of the net with 3 minutes to go before half time.

From the start of the second half, it was all Ghana. Joseph Narbi capped off his performance by giving Godfred Sarpong an assist in the 48 minute immediately after the second half started. The Ivorians responded quickly with a goal back, but it was to no avail.

A brilliant corner from Starlets skipper Benjamin Tsivanyo was headed in by defender Harve Gbafa in the 53rd minute, making it 4-1.

Mark Kagawa put the icing on the cake when he scored Ghana’s 5th, putting the game out of reach for Côte d’Ivoire.

The Black Starlets would be looking forward to progress to the next stage of the tournament and eventually win it to help them book a place them in the upcoming U-17AFCON.
