The Black Queens of Ghana outclassed the She Amavubi’s of Rwanda by 5-0 yesterday in the second leg clash of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifiers at the Accra Sports Stadium to win the two legged tie by an aggregate scoreline of 12-0.
Black Queens Head Coach, Nora Haüptle’s charges were already cruising after previously securing a resounding 7-0 victory against the She Amavubi’s of Rwanda in the first leg at the King Pele Stadium last week.
The Black Queens turned on the style and run out as 5-0 victors on the day with an inspirational Alice Kussi hat-trick, an Evelyn Badu close range finish and a fierce Stella Nyamekye strike.
The Black Queens hardly broke a sweat throughout yesterday’s game and were quickly out of the traps to end Rwanda’s miraculous hopes of a come back after 22 minutes. Alice Kussi’s strike from the edge of the box cannoned off Rwanda’s post into the net.
Kusi was just about getting started; she got her brace 4 minutes later when the ball came off the back of Alice Kussi’s head after initially striking the crossbar.
Kusi rounded off her hat-trick in style as she curled home Evelyn Badu’s cut back from the edge of the box into the top corner to deepen Rwandas wounds.
Evelyn Badu ensured the Queens were home and dry before the interval as she added Ghana’s fourth goal.
The Black Queens dominated the second half and finished off the game in similar fashion as they begun.
Stella Nyamekye cut in from the right hand side, wriggled past two players before unleashing a thunderbolt in stoppage time to seal the win.
Black Queens surge under Swiss manager, Nora Häuplte, with the side yet to put a foot wrong in their previous 7 outings.
Nora Häuptle was ecstatic and shared her post match comments, describing the Queens as high on the pedestal in Women’s Football on the continent.
“I think we are a top 10 or a top 5 team in Africa, first of all. Of course, we have to welcome the win against Rwanda, in my observation I think the squad are competing at the highest level. It was a high level game against Rwanda, and ofcourse we have to start analysing our future opponents, we know very well of that.”
“I am very convinced that we are competitive and confident that we will qualify for the Women’s African Cup of Nations and the 2024 Paris Olympic Games,” the Swiss coach added.
The Black Queens of Ghana will face Namibia in November for a place at the 2024 Womens Africa Cup Of Nations tournament in Morocco.
