The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has disclosed that it will conclude its investigations into alleged malpractice and irregularities related to the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), with plans to release all withheld results by February 28, 2025.
During a press briefing at WAEC’s headquarters in Accra on Friday, February 7, the Head of Public Affairs, John Kapi, emphasized the organization’s commitment to due process and transparency in addressing the issue.
“The Council has been conducting hearings for the candidates involved and has been releasing results as deemed appropriate. We assure all stakeholders that every case of malpractice will be resolved, and results will be released by February 28,” Kapi stated.
This announcement comes in the wake of WAEC’s recent legal challenges concerning the withheld results.
On January 30, 2025, the High Court ruled in favor of four students representing 10,520 candidates whose results were withheld due to suspected examination malpractice.
The court mandated WAEC to release the affected results. However, the examination council has since requested a stay of execution, which is set to be heard on February 20, as it seeks to complete its investigations prior to complying with the court’s order.
The legal representative for the students, Martin Kpebu, contended in court that WAEC had not provided specific information regarding the alleged malpractices that resulted in the withholding of results.
