The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) issued a press release on December 9th December 2024 to appeal to the government to provide the necessary support and funding to facilitate the timely completion of the 2024 WASSCE post-examination activities.
The examination commenced on August 5, 2024, and concluded on September 20, 2024, with marking of essays and practical components taking place from November 7 to November 29, 2024.
However, the scanning of objective cards, scheduled for November 1 to November 30, 2024, were delayed due to scanner breakdowns causing WAEC to wait for additional funds from the Ministry of Education, totaling GHC 118,000,000.00, to repair the scanners.
“Scanning of the objective cards which was scheduled for November 1 to November 30, 2024 is yet to be completed due to the breakdown of scanners used for the process.”
“The Council is awaiting the release of additional funds out of the outstanding balance of GHC 118,000,000.00 from the Ministry of Education for the repair of the scanners to enable the scanning process and other post examination processes to continue smoothly.”
The press release, which was signed by Head of Public Affairs, Mr. John K Kapi, further assured examination officials and suppliers that payments will be made upon receipt of the necessary funds whiles advised the public to disregard social media speculation about result release dates, as results will be announced once post-examination challenges are resolved.
“Members of the public are urged to ignore information circulating on Social Media purporting to be dates for the release of results.”
“The results will be released as soon as the challenges being experienced with the post-examination activities are resolved.”
