The President of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) at the University of Ghana chapter, Dr. Jerry Joe Harrison has urged the University Management to make the institution’s employee celebration a permanent annual event.

Speaking at the opening of the UG employee week celebration today, Dr. Harrison emphasized the need to embed consistent staff recognition into the university’s culture.

“I hope that this celebration week will be immortalised in the history and the culture of the university so that we can celebrate this day every year, reminding ourselves of our commitment to the people whose efforts get the university running,” he stated.

Mr. Harrison praised the dedication and sacrifices made by the university’s academic and non-academic staff. He reminded his colleagues that their efforts positioned the institution as the national benchmark for excellence.

“The need for sacrifices is what makes the University of Ghana what it is. Let me also take this opportunity to remind all of us that we are the standard that everything is measured against,” he added.

Furthermore, he encouraged staff members to maintain the highest institutional standards, stressing that their professional and personal conduct directly impacts the university’s reputation.

“Let us continue to uphold the highest level of excellence and ethics in everything we do so that we can continue to uphold the brand UG. We represent both in our private and personal lives. For your shortcomings… do not have an effect on you alone, but on all of us.”
