The University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) is set to vote on whether to join the planned nationwide strike called by Organized Labour on Tuesday, October 1, 2024.
Speaking to UniversNews, UTAG’s National Vice President, Professor Victor Mongre, disclosed that after a board meeting on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, the association decided to issue communiqués to university teachers across the country, starting today, October 3, to gather their votes.
“We held a meeting and decided to issue communiqués across the country, allowing our colleagues to vote. Once the votes are collated, UTAG will release a statement presenting the results and indicating whether or not we will join the strike.”
The results will be collated by Wednesday, October 9, allowing UTAG to announce its stance ahead of Organized Labour’s planned strike on Thursday, October 10.
This move stems from rising concerns over illegal mining, as UTAG’s calls for urgent action to address the environmental damage have been ignored by the government.
