The University of Ghana, the Ghana Communications Technology University, and the Tamale Technical University will go head to head to earn a spot in the next phase of the Ghana Gas challenge, which is set to be launched today at the University of Ghana R.S Amegashie Auditorium.
The 2022 edition of the Gas Challenge will feature 12 tertiary institutions that will go through phases of the competition, after which only one will be crowned champion.
Some of the schools include the University of Ghana, Ghana Communications Technology University, the University of Mines and Technology, the University of Energy and Natural Resources, as well as the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
Speaking to UniversNews ahead of the launch, Government Relations Officer at the Ghana National Gas Company, Beatrice Benedicta, said that this year’s competition would feature a number of Technical schools as the competition gradually makes way for other schools.
“This year we are open to more technical schools like the Kumasi Technical University , Tamale technical University and Ho technical university. We want to open up to more schools and get them involved, she said”.
The Gas Challenge is an educative program intended to increase knowledge in the petroleum industry as well as create awareness about Ghana’s gas processing system and the operations of the Ghana National Gas Company.
GNGC also seeks to use this medium to bridge the gap between academia and the industry while educating the general public.
This year’s competition will be held under the theme: Embracing the future together: the indispensable role of Gas in facilitating social and economic growth and development .
The launch and prelims will feature the board chairman of Ghana Gas, Honorable Kennedy Agyapong, and the Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Gas, Dr. Ben Asante.
For all the two editions, the University of Mines and Technology (UMAT), Tarkwa, has won the Competition, beating the University of Ghana and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
The Gas Challenge is a quiz competition designed to refine society on the domestic use of gas, the economic opportunities along the gas value chain, and health and safety matters related to the use of gas.
