President of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology Student Repre, Frank Owusu has encouraged aspiring student leaders in various universities in Ghana to pay attention and understand the systems run by the universities before formulating and implementing policies.

Speaking to UniversNews, he opined that aspiring student leaders need to spend a substantial amount of time in understanding their universities’ modus operandi instead of wasting time on campaigning for votes during the long vacation.

“I think one mistake that most of us make is that we take so much time campaigning even after the election, and by the time we realize it, we are already in office. So I advise my students who are coming to work in the long run that you have to take time to understand the system.”

Frank Owusu advised the aspiring student leaders to understand the system to its fullest by spending time interacting with key individuals in charge of the system. According to him, preparation is necessary in achieving big projects for the interests of a University’s populace.

“Talk to those who are in charge of the system, understand the system, and based on the system, you will have to adjust. Sometimes a small conversation can open big doors for you. I mean, people are busy doing this and that, so it’s about you taking time to understand the system. I think it was Abraham Lincoln who said that if he were given eight hours to cut down a tree, he would spend six hours sharpening his axe. We have to take time for preparation, and when we’re able to do that, we can be able to cut down even the biggest of trees,” he said.
