In a bold move to raise awareness about the dangers of illegal mining, the Law Students Union of the University of Ghana School of Law organized the Dean’s Cup games with a focus on combating galamsey.
The event, held at the Mensah Sarbah field on Saturday, June 7, 2025, brought together students to promote sustainable practices and protect Ghana’s natural resources.
The Level 400 class group, spearheaded by Human Rights Law lecturer, Professor Appiagyei-Atua, issued a passionate call to action, urging Ghanaians to join the fight against illegal mining.
“Let’s unite to end galamsey. Protect our water bodies and forests. Sustainable mining practices are the way forward. Together, we can preserve Ghana’s natural heritage. Join the fight against illegal mining today”, a statement from the University of Ghana School of Law, Class of 2025 read.
The Dean’s Cup games served as a unique platform for students to engage with the issue of galamsey and promote environmental sustainability.
The event demonstrated the commitment of the University of Ghana School of Law students to addressing pressing environmental concerns affecting the country.
The Level 400 class group’s initiative showcases the proactive role that students can play in driving positive change.
By leveraging the Dean’s Cup games, the students effectively highlighted the need for collective action against galamsey and promoted sustainable mining practices.
