The Lead of the Nkabom Collaborative at the University of Ghana, Prof. Richmond Aryeetey, has highlighted the initiative’s commitment to empowering women and persons with disabilities as central actors in its activities.

He made this statement during the Nkabom Collaborative Networking Day, held at the School of Public Health on Wednesday, September 17, 2025.

Speaking in an interview with Univers News, Prof. Aryeetey noted that these groups remain a priority in the Collaborative’s work and will receive the necessary support to function effectively.

“There is a need for supportive services so that students with disabilities will be able to function. We are prioritising women and persons with disabilities—they are a priority for us.”

Prof. Aryeetey further explained that the team will continue to work closely with the university’s Centre for Disability Studies and Advocacy (CEDSA) to ensure the full involvement of women and persons with disabilities in its programmes.

He stressed that this approach goes beyond inclusion, aiming to create sustainable opportunities that enable marginalised groups to thrive as leaders, innovators, and entrepreneurs in the agri-food sector.

“I think that’s the main thing—that we are committed to supporting them, and we will work with the Centre [CEDSA] to be able to do so. So, in our selection of students, in our programming, and in the people we hire, we are very intentional about prioritising women.”

The UG Nkabom Collaborative, funded by the Mastercard Foundation, brings together Ghanaian and international partners to empower young people, women, and persons with disabilities to play leading roles in reshaping the agri-food system.
