Director of the University of Ghana Careers and Counselling Centre, Rev. Dr. Bridget Ben-Naimah, has urged students to embrace artificial intelligence (AI) and become intentional about acquiring skills relevant to the 21st-century job market.
The event, themed “Exploring Careers of Today: The Place of Artificial Intelligence,” brought together students, industry players, and innovators.
Speaking at the official opening of UG Career Day 2025, held at the Great Hall, Rev. Dr. Ben-Naimah highlighted the critical role of AI in shaping the future of work.
“Artificial intelligence leads to increased efficiency and the creation of more industries that require trained personnel,” she said, stressing the urgency for students to upskill in order to stay competitive in today’s evolving job landscape.
She advised against fearing or resisting AI, describing it instead as an opportunity for reinvention.
“Our era calls for reskilling and upskilling beyond the known. We either brace ourselves up to move along with the AI tide or we get thrown out or left behind,” she warned.
Rev. Dr. Ben-Naimah also encouraged students to make the most of platforms like Career Day by engaging directly with employers, polishing their CVs, and preparing adequately for interviews.
Following her address, over 30 companies from various sectors including banking, tech, media, oil & gas, and consultancy showcased opportunities for students. Notable participants included Huawei Ghana, TotalEnergies, Stanbic Bank, Media General, and Ernst & Young, with some offering on-the-spot interviews and internship slots.
The event featured a rich mix of career booths, keynote addresses, panel discussions, CV clinics, and breakout sessions. Students received mentorship on emerging skillsets and learned how AI is being integrated into different industries.
UG Career Day 2025 reaffirmed the university’s commitment to preparing students for the demands of the modern workplace, with artificial intelligence at the heart of the conversation.
