#UGDecides: Roland Oppong and Lorinda Owie Teyehugmeh emerge victorious in run-off elections

The University of Ghana Student Representative Council UGSRC elections have reached its climax, with Roland Oppong and Lorinda Owie Teyehugmeh securing victories in the run-off for Treasurer and General Secretary, respectively.

Out of 59,629 registered voters, 7,932 ballots were cast, representing a voter turnout of approximately 13.3%.

In the race for Treasurer, Roland Oppong secured 4,096 votes, translating to 51.6% of the total valid votes cast, defeating Jonathan Kankam, who received 3,764 votes, accounting for 47.5%. A total of 72 voters abstained, making up 0.9% of the votes.

For the General Secretary position, Lorinda Owie Teyehugmeh won decisively with 66.4% of the vote, accumulating 5,267 votes.

Her opponent, Deborah Febiri-Damoah, garnered 2,451 votes, representing 30.9%. Additionally, there were 214 abstentions, making up 2.7% of the total votes cast.

With these results, Roland Oppong is set to assume the role of UGSRC Treasurer-elect, while Lorinda Owie Teyehugmeh will take on the mantle of General Secretary-elect for the 2024/25 academic year respectively, to successfully complete the 67th SRC administration spearheaded by Maradona Adjei Yeboah and Jeffery Adu Yeboah.
