Some Candidates in the just-ended 2022University of Ghana Student’s Representative Council (UGSRC) elections have petitioned the Electoral Commission for an audit of the 2022 UGSRC election results.
The candidates; Samuel Ackom, Ramzy Ahmad Fuseini, Curtis Owusu Akomeah, Linda Ackah-Mensah, Vida Mintah, Diana Ohene Bemah, Ernestina Mahama, and Edward Owusu Boateng argued that some students complained about their student’s emails being illegally accessed and being used to vote without their notice.
In a Petition sighted by Univers News, these candidates believe this occurrence has the potential to impact the results of the polls and thereby should be investigated by the commission.
We the undersigned candidates in the just ended 2022 UGSRC elections write to you to bring to your attention, and to protest certain irregularities that vitiated the conduct of the aforementioned elections, and demand an audit of the results of the election.
The aggrieved candidates are therefore demanding the release of the spreadsheet of the back end of the voting system to enable them to audit the result. This they believe would be in the interest of transparency and sanctity of the votes of students.
”Elections are very important in the democratic process; even more important is the sanctity of an electoral process. We are therefore demanding, in the interest of transparency and the protection of the sanctity of the votes of students, the release of the spreadsheet from the back-end of the voting system, to enable all candidates to audit the results of the elections.” They demand.
They are further demanding a fair hearing of their petitions before the final declaration of the 2022 UGSRC results.
We the undersigned candidates demand your office will give a fair hearing to this petition as a matter of urgency before the commission proceeds to declare the final results or otherwise as stipulated in the constitutional instrument that guides the conduct of the 2022 UGSRC elections.
Students of the University went to the polls on Tuesday, November 1 to elect new crops of leaders to manage the affairs of the student body. The elections were conducted online for all undergraduate students with assistance from the University of Ghana’s Computing System.
Former Presidential Candidate, Samuel Ackom who lost to Martin Boakye Gyasi & Abraham Lincoln Ohene has however earlier in a communique dated November 8 2022 congratulated the President and Vice-President elect while pledging his commitment to support them in their vision to build ‘a Rising SRC’.
