Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo officially broke ground to commence the beautification of the Linked Gate on Thursday, 18th May, 2023.

The Linked gate is the main entrance from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA)/Achimota road through Little Legon and the Legon Hills into the University of Ghana, Legon Campus.

Aside the Main gate (opposite the Legon Police Station), the North gate (Close to the James Topp-Nelson Yankah Hall, Haatso Road), the South gate (from Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research to National Highway 4-N4) and the Evandy Gate (off the N4 Highway, opposite PRESEC, Legon), the Link Gate serves as another major route entrance for persons plying the Achimota-Legon road to enter the University Campus.

The project to beautify the Linked Gate involves the construction of pavements, walkways and rest-stops on the long path.

Managing Director at Mendanha & Sousa Construction, Carlos Sousa revealed that the project will commence in two weeks from the time of the ground breaking and will be completed within six(6) months.

He also revealed that the project is aimed at creating an accommodating environment for individuals who walk through the stretch as they may be exhausted from the long distance.

“Just as we did at the South Gate, we will construct pavements and sheds for persons who are tired from walking since it’s a long stretch; the project will be completed in six months after commencement,” he assured.

The ceremony ended with a symbolic ground-breaking by the Vice-Chancellor and a closing prayer by a member of the University’s Chaplaincy Board.
