Exams at the University of Ghana are in full swing, and while lecture halls, reading rooms, and libraries are buzzing with serious study, some students say the real secret to surviving the pressure is knowing how to take a break.
From YouTube binges to solo hangouts, students told Univers Entertainment about the fun activities that keep them balanced in this stressful season.
“For me, when I feel overburdened with studies, I just give myself 30 minutes to 1 hour, move to YouTube or TikTok, watch some fun videos to lighten up the atmosphere before I go back to my books,” one student shared.
Another explained how solo treats help him recharge: “I take myself out on solo days to declutter my mind. I watch movies, play games, and sometimes watch YouTube videos. I don’t wait till exams before I start studying, so during exam season there’s not too much pressure.”
For others, escaping into screens is the trick.
“When I’m tired, I just watch horror movies or cartoons. Sometimes, Snapchat stories; other times, I watch reels on Instagram. It’s my go-to way of easing the tension.”
Freshers’ funniest moments
Even as seniors are battling exams, Level 100 students reflected on some of their funniest memories as freshers, with the semester already halfway through and Level 200 life just around the corner.
One student recalled how a Political Science lecturer projected class results in the most hilarious way possible: “Last semester, people really failed the first Political Science test. Out of 30, some were getting single digits. The lecturer projected the results in class, asked for your index number, looked at you, and then announced it. It was too funny.”
Another fresher nearly found himself in the wrong exam hall: “I asked a friend where we were writing our exams because our IDs are close. He told me ‘Nursing School’, but I was supposed to be at JQB. If I hadn’t double-checked, I would have gone to Nursing and then rushed to JQB.”
For some, navigating the campus itself was the real challenge.
“Our first exam, someone asked me where UGCS is, and I directed him towards the Dance Department. After he left, I asked another person, and they also gave me a completely different direction. To date, I don’t know if he found the place.”
From laughter-filled mix-ups to creative exam stress escapes, students on Legon campus are proving once again that, beyond the late-night studies and the serious exams, university life is as much about the stories and memories as it is about the grades.
