Educationist and Deputy Editor of the Teacher Education Journal, Daniel Fenyi has advised students to join political platforms in order to achieve their political aspirations.

He was speaking on Campus Exclusive on the involvement of university students in national politics.

According to Daniel Fenyi, these platforms give students an opportunity to improve their knowledge of national politics.

“Getting yourself into some of these political spaces will help you a lot. If you are somebody who is aspiring to get into the National level politics, then starting from the student front would give you the experiences, you could make a lot of mistakes and learn from them. You know these students’ leaders make use of these platforms to sharpen politically relevant skills that they could use after school.”

He however advised students to avoid letting politics consume them and deprive them off their academic obligations.

He suggested a balance in academic studies and political goals.

“We encourage the students that in as much as they want to position themselves politically, they might also want to balance it well with their academic business so that they don’t ignore their primary reason for being in school, and not to unnecessarily step on toes that they shouldn’t step on.”

He again urged students to do their political activities within the confines of the school laws.

According to him, this would save students from being subjected to sanctions involving breaches of student leadership’s responsibilities.

“In carrying out your political activities you should try to do it within the confines of the rules and regulations of your school so that you don’t end up being rasticulated or being frustrated or having your certificate being withheld among all the troubles that these  students’ leaders go through.”
