Two UGSRC aspirants, Larbi Ofori Richmond and Gyampo Ayeh Ebenezer, are facing calls for disqualification from the upcoming UGSRC elections following a formal petition to the Electoral Commission.
The petition, signed by ten students from various halls, claims the pair’s joint presidential and vice-presidential bid breaches key rules of the SRC Constitution and other regulations.
According to the petitioners, both aspirants are from the same hall — Jean Nelson Aka Hall — which violates the rule that presidential running mates must come from different halls. Additionally, Gyampo is said to be ineligible because he has already served as JCR President of his hall and is currently in his final year, both of which disqualify him from contesting for any SRC executive position.
The students are demanding the immediate disqualification of the duo and the nullification of their nomination, urging the Electoral Commission to uphold the integrity and fairness of the election process. The petition is backed by students from halls including Volta, Akuafo, Limann, and Evandy.
The Electoral Commission is yet to issue an official response
