The President of the University of Ghana Students’ Representative Council (SRC), Jeffrey Adu Yeboah, has revealed that a proposal is in the pipeline to introduce Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a compulsory course for all students.
This initiative was discussed during the university’s Careers Day event held on June 11, 2025, under the theme “Exploring Careers Today: The Role of Artificial Intelligence.”
According to Jeffery, the suggestion emerged as a way to prepare students for future opportunities in the evolving job market.
“One suggestion that came up was, ‘Why don’t we make AI one of the courses students can study because of the opportunities it presents?’” he said.
He explained that the SRC has formally adopted the idea as a proposal and plans to submit it to university management for consideration.
“The Director of Academic Affairs was present and gave us a thumbs up, which gives us hope that management will be receptive to the idea,” he added.
Speaking to Univers News, he expressed optimism that, if approved, the course could be introduced as early as the next academic year.
