The University of Ghana has announced the continuation of the Open Random Bed Allocation system for undergraduate continuing students and fresh graduate students in the 2024/2025 academic year. Introduced in the previous academic cycle, the system aims to promote fairness and transparency in the distribution of the limited residential spaces within the University of Ghana Enterprises Limited (UGEL) halls.

According to a notice issued by the Pro Vice-Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs, Professor Gordon Awandare, on September 19, 2024, students who wish to participate in the bed allocation process must first complete their academic registration. Once registered, they can opt into the allocation process via the STS portal. The deadline for expressing interest in the bed allocation is set for Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at 5:00 PM.

The allocation will take place on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at 11:00 AM. This process will be conducted openly, with stakeholders present to ensure its fairness and transparency.

The notice further warns students and their guardians against making any payments in exchange for bed spaces, emphasizing that such practices are illegal. Students found engaging in such activities or occupying unauthorized accommodations will face disciplinary action.

This random allocation system is part of the university’s ongoing efforts to manage its accommodation resources equitably, providing every student with an equal opportunity to secure housing in the UGEL halls.
