The CWUR’s assessment process evaluated 20,531 universities worldwide, with only the top 2000 making it to the Global 2000 list. The rankings were based on seven objective indicators across four areas; education quality, alumni employment, faculty quality, and research performance.
University of Ghana secured the top spot in Ghana by scoring 69.1. In the West African Region, the University of Ghana’s remarkable performance positioned it as the second-best University, after Nigeria’s University of Ibadan, which scored 69.5.
This recognition is proof of the University of Ghana’s unwavering commitment to academic excellence, innovative research, and holistic student development over its 75 years of existence.
It must be noted that the University of Ghana has attained such great feat at a time the University is celebrating 75 years of existence. This feat is well deserving of the University of Ghana in as much as it has carved a niche for itself in areas of Academic reputation, research output, faculty quality, International collaborations, graduate employability amongst others.
In reaction to this, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Nana Aba Appiah Amfo has commended the efforts of faculty, staff and students of the University for their hard work, perseverance and relentlessness. According to her, all these qualities contributed to helping the University achieve this feat.
The recognition of the University as one of the leading educational institutions in the country and the second best university in West Africa is also a matter of great pride for the country, as it has long been recognized as a pioneer in higher education.
The university continues to develop generations of leaders, scholars and professionals who will make significant contributions to socio-economic development in Ghana and beyond.
