The University of Ghana (UG), with reference to a decision of the Academic Board, has published the names of 32 students penalised for engaging in examination malpractice.

In breach of Regulations 10.5 and 11.2 of the University of Ghana Regulations on Examinations, 16 students received Grade Z for the possession of unauthorised materials (written notes) and copying from them during the first semester examinations for the 2024/2025 academic year.

Also in violation of the same regulations, two students were given Grade Z for the possession of unauthorised materials (printed documents) during the supplementary resit examinations for the 2024/2025 academic year.

In another case, one student received Grade Z for possessing and copying from a mobile phone (with ChatGPT access) during the supplementary resit examinations for the same academic year.

Another student was assigned Grade Z for exposing an answer booklet for another candidate to copy during the supplementary resit examinations.

Again, in breach of Regulation 10.5 of the University of Ghana Regulations on Examinations, six students received Grade X for the possession of unauthorised devices (mobile phones).

Four students were also penalised with Grade X for communicating in the examination hall.

One student received Grade X for both communicating and possessing an unauthorised device (mobile phone).

Another student was penalised with Grade X for soliciting the assistance of invigilating assistants.

The University explained that Grade Z constitutes “failure in the entire semester’s examination,” while Grade X constitutes a “failed grade.”

The statement concluded by urging students to familiarise themselves with the University’s regulations and conduct themselves in a manner befitting members of the University community.
