Pro Vice Chancellor in charge of Academic and Student Affairs (PRO VC ASA ) of the University of Ghana Prof. Gordon Awandare has called on corporate investors to support the University in modernizing student-shared facilities on campus.
He revealed that the university management is using its internal resources to improve facilities such as the various lecture halls like N and NN Blocks, Central Cafetaria (CC), and the Jones Quartey Building (JQB) amongst others.
Speaking to UniversNews at the commissioning of two new ICT centers by the political science department on January 19th, Prof. Gordon Awandare added that more corporate support in modernizing these shared facilities will go a long way to help the university’s digitalization agenda.
“What we are doing is we are focusing first on the shared facilities N BLOCK(NB), J.Q.B, Central Cafeteria(CC), New NBLOCK(NNB), K.A.B and we are initially using our internal resources, but we are also looking for corporate support and some are coming on board and once any corporate entity comes onboard, we can decide to adopt one of the lecture halls and modernize it and we honor them for that.”
Prof. Awandare further encouraged various units of the university to improve their own teaching facilities.
“We are focusing on the shared facilities first and we are encouraging units to also take the initiative. Political science have been able to get support, improve their own teaching facilities so that’s what we’re encouraging. We are focused on the big shared facilities, we expect department, schools, colleges to also modernize their own facilities in their own way. The sponsors you see they have supported political science department we would like to work to do more at the institutional level. For example, they can modernize JQB so when departments bring on board partners, the university will welcome them and promote them further so they can support the university at the institutional level.”
The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, with the University of Ghana Centre for Teaching and Learning Innovation, in partnership with Clems High, on December 13th, 2022 also commissioned the refurbished K.A. Busia Classroom.
It was modernized to promote enhanced teaching and learning through the use of modern technology as part of the Vice Chancellor’s initiative.
