The Political Science Department at the University of Ghana has commissioned two Information and Communication Technology (ICT) centers aimed at effectively carrying out the digitalization vision of the university.
The two ICT centers, namely the J.R.A Ayee ICT center and the K.B. Atta E-learning center, are said to be an enabling initiative by the department to improve teaching and learning.
Speaking at the forecourt of the political science department, Senior lecturer and Head of the Political Science Department, Dr. Seidu Alidu stated that the department is creating an enabling environment for both students and lecturers for effective teaching and learning to take place.
“The School of Social Sciences in the provision of effective teaching and learning, relevance research and extension services, and building very dependable, reliable partnerships. The most important team dialogue to all these visions is to create an enabling environment for learning to take place and we are here this morning to facilitate that objective, that is commissioning two important ICT centers. They are the J.R.A Ayee ICT center and the K. B E-learning center.”
Dr Alidu also revealed that commissioning of these two centers is just the beginning of more digitization projects set to be carried out by the department, such as digitizing of all the books at the Kwame Acon Ninsin library amongst others.
“The Department of Political Science wants to operationalize the digitalization vision of the university. And what we seek to do is to provide two additional desktop computers to the General office, provide two additional desktop computers to the Kwame Acon Ninsin library , and that starts the process of digitalizing all the books that we have in that particular center. We’ll be adding two laptops to the two teaching centers that we have in the department so that moving forward, we create that enabling environment that is required to be able to teach.”
