UG: Management begins installation of CCTV cameras to avert clashes on campus

Management of the University of Ghana has stated that they have begun the installation of CCTV Cameras on campus prevent clashes between halls and also to beef up security on the university campus.
The University Management in a statement to students stated that they are partnering with the National Signals Bureau to install secret cameras in various parts of the University community.
These areas include the Mensah Sarbah Annex B road to the Physical Development and Municipal Service Directorate PDSMD, the T-junction of the Political Science Department to the road leading to the Botanical Gardens, the New N-Block to the UG Press, Addae Mensah Intersection, George Benneh Roundabout, Hilla Liman Hall, School of Engineering, Volta Hall Roundabout, Balm Library Roundabout, Okponglo gate, Sout Legon gate, Main University gate, Bani Hostel checkpoint, Link road, Modern Language annexe, Confucius Institute, Central Cafeteria and the Legon Hall Annex B.

The University of Ghana is partnering with the National Signals Bureau for the installation of CCTV cameras at various locations on the Legon campus as part of measures to improve upon security in the University.

Management added that the project is expected to last for four weeks.

The laying of cables for the project has started and it’s expected to continue for the next four weeks.” The release emphasised.

They are, however, asking students and the general public to be guided.

Closed-Circuit Television CCTV is a TV system in which signals are not publicly distributed but are monitored, primarily for surveillance and security purpose.

The University of Ghana has – in the past few years – been experiencing cases of theft, armed robberies and violent clashes on its main campus.

Some students appealed to management for enhanced security measures, including the installation of CCTV cameras, to guarantee the safety of residents.
