The University of Ghana has officially launched the second edition of its Corporate Football League following a press event held on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at the VIP Lounge of the University of Ghana Stadium.

The initiative forms part of the university’s broader commitment to promoting sports participation, wellness, and corporate engagement within the university community and among partner institutions.

The launch event brought together the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, representatives of participating corporate organisations, key stakeholders, and members of the media.

The occasion was used to unveil plans for the new season, which is scheduled to run from February to June 2026. The league is being organised by the University of Ghana Sports and Wellness Directorate in partnership with RITE Sports Services and will feature 18 corporate teams competing across two groups.

Group A includes Ghana Civil Aviation Authority, the defending champions, Bui Power Authority, Ghana Football Association, Stanbic Bank, Ghana Armed Forces Officers’ Sports Club, Ghana National Petroleum Corporation, GOIL Ghana, and the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration.
Group B will feature Union Ghana, Ghana Airports Company Limited, National Petroleum Authority, Zenith Bank, Lebanese Sports Community, Telecel Ghana, Wilmar Africa, and the Forestry Commission.

Speaking on behalf of the Minister for Sports and Recreation, the Board Chair of the National Sports Authority, Dr. Fred Awaah, underscored the broader impact of the competition. He noted that the league goes beyond football, serving as a platform for wellness, recreation, and overall well-being, while reaffirming government support for initiatives that promote healthy living through sports. He also commended the University of Ghana and called on corporate partners to support the initiative.

Organisers say the second edition will place a stronger emphasis on professionalism and competitiveness, building on the success of the maiden season. The league is set to kick off on Friday, February 13, providing a structured platform for corporate institutions to promote staff wellness, networking, and regular football action within the university environment.

Also present at the launch were the Chief Executive Officer of RITE Sports Services, Yaw Sakyi Afari; the Director of the Sports and Wellness Directorate, Dr Austin Luguterah; and the Registrar of the University of Ghana, Mrs. Emelia Agyei-Mensah, among other dignitaries.

So far, 18 out of 20 available slots have been filled, with two places still open. Organisers revealed that five additional teams have expressed interest, from which two will be selected.

Unlike last season, where individual colleges competed separately, the University of Ghana’s colleges — Education, Basic and Applied Sciences, Humanities, Health Sciences, and Central Administration — have been merged into a single unified team.

This adjustment has created room for new entrants such as Wilmar Africa, GOIL Ghana, Lebanese Sports Ghana, and GIMPA to join the competition.

Defending champions Ghana Civil Aviation Authority will be aiming to retain their title as the rest of the field battle for honours in what promises to be an exciting second edition of the University of Ghana Corporate Football League.
