The University of Ghana has formally inducted newly admitted students of the College of Health Sciences at a matriculation ceremony held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at the Cedi Conference Centre.

The ceremony officially welcomed freshmen admitted into programmes including Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Allied Health Sciences, and Public Health, marking their entry into the university community as junior members of Ghana’s Premier University.

Present at the ceremony were the College Registrar, Mr. Worlanyo Newton Torvinyo; the Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Professor Alfred Edwin Yawson; and Deans of the various schools under the College.

Proceedings included the administration of the matriculation oath and the signing of the matriculation register.

Alex Atuahene Asamoah, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing student, delivered an address on behalf of the matriculating class and signed the matricula on their behalf.

Speaking to Univers News, some of the new students shared their expectations as they begin their academic journey. While many expressed optimism and strong ambitions, others admitted to having modest expectations.

“So I want to achieve a high GPA, and I’m hoping God will help me pass. I’m proud to be a University of Ghana student,” one student said.

Another student, however, said his focus was simply on completing his programme.

“I would say I don’t have any expectations. I’m just here to get a degree and leave. I don’t expect anything from this school,” he stated.

Others acknowledged that the road ahead may be demanding but worthwhile.

“I know there will be some tough times, but generally I want the experience to be great. Academically, I want to study well, and socially, I hope to make good friends and build strong networks,” a matriculant shared.

One student also expressed high academic aspirations.

“My expectation is to graduate as a valedictorian. I’m hopeful and determined to work hard to achieve that,” the student said.

The matriculation ceremony officially ushers the new students into academic life at the University of Ghana, as they begin their journey in the College of Health Sciences with diverse goals, ambitions, and expectations.
