After several attempts by some geography teachers and students to establish an association that aims uniting all geography students in Ghana to achieve a common goal, the dream was finally brought to light as the Geography Student Association of Ghana was launched on 11th November 2023 at the Institute of Statistical Social and Economic Research (ISSER) conference center, University of Ghana.
The founder and brain behind GEOSAG, Israel Offei Woode, who happens to be the immediate past Geography and Resource Development Students Association (GREDSA) president explained the challenges he encountered and how he had to make a conscious effort to deal with the challenges. He expressed his excitement about the manifestation of his dream of establishing GEOSAG from 2 years ago.
“I had this dream two years ago, and everyone thought it was too big to be manifested, but here we are, notwithstanding, we faced some challenges.”
Univers News engaged one of the guest speakers, a facilitator at the Ghana International School, Mr. Isaac Osei Affiah, who graced the occasion. In the engagement, he expressed his excitement about the launch of the association.
“I’m highly elated about the laugh of GEOSAG; this’s something a group of teachers thought about in 2005, but we thank God and the pioneers for bringing it to light.”
Some geography students and executives from other institutions such as the University of Education, Winneba, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and some senior high schools were engaged by Univers news, where they were elated to share their excitement about the launch. For them, the association would serve as a learning platform for geography stduents, promoting socialization and ultimately uniting all geography students across the nation.
“We’re grateful to the brains behind this association, since it will not only serve only academic purposes, but a form of socialization and networking among individuals and institutions.”
