Chancellor of the University of Ghana Mary Chinery-Hesse has called for student-driven innovation to be placed at the center of national efforts to address unemployment.

‎Speaking at the first session of the July 2025 Congregation held at the University’s Great Hall, Mrs. Chinery-Hesse urged government, industry, and development partners to collaborate more closely with academic institutions to develop sustainable solutions to youth joblessness.

‎”As Chancellor of this university, I urge government, industry, and development partners to work more closely with our institutions. If we are to tackle unemployment meaningfully, student innovation must be placed at the center of Ghana’s job creation agenda.”

‎She added that such partnerships would empower the next generation and contribute to a more inclusive and resilient society.

‎”I believe this will help us in our quest to secure a future of dignity, opportunity, and hope for our young people,” she said.

‎The first session of this year’s July  congregation saw 107 PhD students from the School of Graduate Studies awarded their degrees.
