UG begins graduation ceremony for the 2023 graduating class

The University of Ghana has begun the conduction of its annual graduation ceremony for its 2023 graduating batch starting from 23rd January, 2024.

The ceremony is aimed at rewarding graduands for their efforts in completing their educational degrees at the university. This year, the annual ceremony took place at the Great Hall and the Cedi Conference as usual, where a total of over fifteen thousand individuals would be celebrating their graduation in the 2022/ 2023 academic year.

Governing council member and representative of the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Mr. Amos Amankwah noted the annual increase of graduating students while congratulating the graduands for completing thier degrees at the institution.

Pro Vice-Chancellor for research, innovation and development, Prof. Felix Ankomah Asante also represented the Vice-Chancellor in a report reading, where it was stated that out of 15,549 students, 120 bagged PHD’s, 3,389 with masters, 10,504 of undergrads and 611 of non-degree students.

The report revealed that 14,072 students have been newly enrolled, amounting the university’s population to 63,820 students as of the first semester of the 2023\2024 academic year, with 49.7 % being males and 5o.3% being females.

The introduction of the random bed allocation was also mentioned as a measure to aid prospective students irrespective of their network connectivity to secure accommodation on campus.

Other measures aimed at improving the learning conditions of the members of the University community included the internship policy launched last year, the inaugural UG day, the implementation of city campuses at the Ashanti and Western Regions, the digitalization and modernization of classroom project and the one student one laptop initiative.

The guest speaker of the ceremony, Mr. Eric Nana Nipah quoted American scholar, Benjamin Franklin to the graduating class as a congratulatory message for their achievements.

He showed appreciation to the families and sponsors of members of the graduating class together with the university’s staff and all who contributed in their successes.
Mr. Nipah urged the class to not settle for what they have just achieved as graduands but to harbor ambition for the future.

He lastly quoted Wiston Churchill to wish the graduands all the best, while goes as, “Success is not final, failure is not fatal, it is the courage to continue that counts.”

The graduation ceremony will continue consecutively till the 27th of January, 2024, which will see various colleges graduate their completing students in that period.
