The Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Professor Godwin Awandare, has announced that the university is collaborating with a private company to establish a laptop manufacturing facility on campus.
Speaking at the 2024 Congregation Ceremony for the University of Ghana School of Law under the College of Humanities on August 10, 2024, Professor Awandare highlighted that this initiative will allow students and staff to purchase laptops at more affordable prices.
“The university is currently working with a private company to set up a facilityU near the Legon Campus for the production of laptops, once this initiative is launched, students and staff will be able to buy laptops at significantly lower prices, which will support both academic and administrative work. I believe this is welcome news.”
Professor Awandare also noted that the University of Ghana has made substantial progress in implementing several key initiatives that began during the 2021-2022 academic year.
“These initiatives are designed to greatly enhance the overall student experience at our university,” he explained. “One of the highlights is the One Student, One Laptop initiative. Recently, we held the fourth distribution ceremony for this program, where new laptops were provided to an additional 36 students, including four with disabilities.”
