The University of Ghana Alumni Association has cut the sod for the construction of the first Hotspot Comfort Zone on the University’s campus.
This event took place when the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo led a delegation of University Management and Senior Alumni of the University community on Thursday, 18th May, 2023, to commence the construction of the first Hotspot Comfort Zone.
Alum from the University, Dr.(Mrs) Sylvia Awo Mansah Boye led the sod cutting and ground breaking of the zone points for the construction to set off.
The construction is set to begin adjacent Maison Francaise and the Athletics Oval on the University of Ghana campus, where the sod-cutting also took place.
The construction is being sponsored by the University of Ghana Alumni Association to support the Vice-Chancellor’s Programme for ‘Enhancing Student Experience through Digitalisation’.
The event also saw principal officers of the University Management; Pro-Vice Chancellor for Academic & Student Affairs(ASA), Prof. Gordon Awandare, Registrar, Mrs. Emelia Agyei Mensah, Directors of Public & Academic Affairs Directorates amongst other dignitaries.
Present at the event were Chairman of the Alumni Association, Ms. Doris Kisiwa Ansah, and other members of the Alumni association – Prof. Ohenba Sekyi, Dr. George Tsey Kwadzo, Mrs. Alexina Arthur and Mrs. Anna Amporful.
Speaking at the event, the more Vice-Chancellor expressed joy over her dream of providing hotspot comfort zones for students at various vantage points on campus finally coming to fruition.
She also thanked the Alumni for their support in her initiative to improve teaching and learning in the University through digitalisation.
“The Hotspot Comfort Zones as part of the university’s efforts to enhance learning experience of students will provide students with a reliable and efficient internet connection…we are grateful for the support we are receiving from the alumni body to commence this project,” she noted.
The ceremony was climaxed by seed-planting and unveiling of the construction plan of the project.
The Hotspot Comfort Zones are part of the Vice-Chancellor’s initiative to digitalise teaching and learning on campus.
These comfort zones will serve as an avenue for students to access internet connection in their leisure time before, after or in-between lectures so that they may.
They will also serve as a space for research work for students when they are in need of internet connection.
