The Akuafo Hall Junior Common Room (JCR) on 28th October, organized a breast cancer awareness program, dubbed, ‘Think Pink: Living Beyond Breast Cancer’, at the Akuafo hall quadrangle.
The motive of the program, was to draw students’ attention to the effects of breast cancer.
The month of October, popularly known as pink October has remarkably been set to create awareness about breast cancer and to educate people on the causes, effects and preventive measures in relation to breast cancer.
In light of this, the Akuafo Hall Women’s Commission in collaboration with Hyperlink media organized a breast awareness program for its residents.
Akuafo JCR organizer, Peter Gyawu explained the objective of the occasion.
“The breast cancer awareness program was ignited by a colleague JCR executive, whose relative is battling with breast cancer and goes through severe pains,” he said.
The event had health personnel coming to screen and educate residents on the fact that breast is one of the delicate parts of the human body and needs to be given the utmost attention.
The special guests were in the persons of Vicky Zugah, an actress and a TV host and Esinam Afi Saede, the second female UGSRC President in 2016. They spoke extensively about breast cancer and their personalities.
Aside the educational aspect of the Akuafo hall’s breast cancer awareness program, there were some fun activities that came about such as health walk and aerobics with music, in door games, spin and win gifts from Hyperlink media, among others.
Akuafo’s JCR Vice President Rose Kasha Solomon expressed gratitude to the attendees for their participation in the event.
“On behalf of the Women’s Commision, we want to use this opportunity to express our utmost appreciation to everyone for your utmost cooperation for making the breast cancer awareness program a success.”
